m_20151015_183930_resizedOur lives have become so fast paced and planned right down to every detail , so when I attended a dinner at recently opened Reverie Social Table, it was so refreshing to know that all one has to do is book and pay online beforehand.  The food and wine for the evening is a mystery and is carefully curated with love by young and extremely talented Julia Hattingh. A beautiful long 18 seater table is the centerpiece of this quaint and eclectic eatery in Lower Main Road Observatory.  ”Guests are encouraged to put their cellphones away and engage with one another. Perfect for those who love food, wine and great company. ”

Then the first course arrived. Tuna tartare with fermented black bean, pickled mushroom, avo and truffle mayo paired with 2 dogs, a horse and a peacock Sauvignon Blanc.
This pairing in particular rocked my world. So well thought out and balanced.

Julia took chickpeas to a whole new level with this dish. Packed with serious flavour and I lenjoyed the sourness of the dosa bread.

m_20151015_205707m_20151015_205510m_20151015_205905The main course was served casually on the table and we all passed the food around which created a lovely sense of ”togetherness” with fellow guests. Believe you me, it was plentiful.
Grassfed beef flat iron steak, creamed potato, wild mushroom cognac sauce, pickled beetroot paired with Nicholas Red.
Honest to goodness delish!

m_20151015_213442White chocolate and piment d’ espelette panna cotta, raw honey comb, fresh granny smith and walnut salad, Langbaken Karoo Blue cheese paired with La petite vigne deep red rose.
This dessert was insane. Very clever indeed.  Was it a dessert, what it a cheese course? It is a dish I can’t quite explain, other than it being so flippen delicious.
